Trying to find travel insurance at a reasonable cost for people with liver disease, heart condition, cancer or any other serious medical condition can be a real big problem.

Selective companies claim to specialise in low cost pre existing and post medical insurance cover, this can vary from £1000's to a few hundred pounds, some policies can be obtained for £100 or less, depending on where you are travelling, general health, medication, and age etc.

For the first few months after your transplant you will be advised NOT to travel abroad. Always seek advise when you will be allowed to travel.

Occasionally some companies will refuse cover altogether. As a general rule cover can usually be obtained, it all depends on whether you are prepared to pay the aditional costs involved. In some cases this can be more expensive than the holiday itself.

Sadly you are never going to get cheap insurance cover travelling with a medical condition, even after you have had a transplant, It is vital that you have adequate insurance cover and you may also need vaccinations for travelling, especially abroad. Some vaccinations you WILL not be allowed to have depending on your type of medication and condition, so always check with your medical team or co-ordinators for a full update on the requirements before travelling.
